Arvada UMC is seeking a Youth Ministry Assistant (YMA). The YMA, under the guidance of the Minister of Discipleship will manage volunteer coordination, preparation for weekly and annual youth gatherings, and handle regular communications with families and youth.
This part-time position would begin March 1, 2021 planning for 40 hours/month including face-to-face and digital teaching, planning, and light administration.
Hours per week: 10 hours per week
Travel: Youth Retreats, Mission Trips, and other off campus events will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Primary Responsibilities
With guidance from Minister of Discipleship, coordinate weekly youth education content/curriculum (scope and sequence).
Contact time with youth. Most of this time is currently on Sundays but could take place at other times in the week as the program develops. ~4hous/week
Prepare classroom spaces as necessary
Confirm Sunday school teachers and curriculum distribution
Teach one of the youth education classes
Lead/assist youth group
Envision and plan for youth programing including:
Weekly youth group (face-to-face and/or digital)
Special events
Youth kick off, fall retreat, fundraisers, end-of-year party, lock-ins, mission trips, etc.
Weekly communications with youth and youth families.
Secondary Responsibilities:
Regular meetings with Minister of Discipleship
Family Ministries Council attendance and participation
Leadership Summit attendance and participation (January & August)
Note: not expected to attend weekly Staff Meeting unless specifically invited

Skills:
Enthusiasm and respect for the mission and values of AUMC
Experience in leadership with youth and children
Must pass a background check and have finger-prints on file
Experience taking the lead in managing groups of youth, setting expectations, and handling disruptions common with working with teenagers
Essential evidence of Initiative, flexibility and problem-solving experiences and leadership
Evidence of clear communications skills
Willingness to work with others, be a team player, and participate in the staff of AUMC
Physical Expectation:
Good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination and the ability to use hands in quick, repetitive motion is required to perform content creation and operate common office equipment. Computer work requires extended periods of time in a seated position. Light physical activity including occasional bending, squatting, standing, walking and lifting lightweight materials up to 35 pounds. Ability to independently travel to destinations.
