Arvada United Methodist Church’s Business Manager serves as both the Finance Officer and Human Relations director for the church and preschool (KDD). This person is responsible for the maintenance and use of appropriate accounting and payroll systems in coordination with the church management system (ShelbyNext); preparation of GAAP accounting and HR reports to church administration both locally and to the Mountain Sky Conference (regional office); and state and federal bodies.
This part-time position is supervised by the Lead Pastor and Chair of the Finance Team and requires at least 6-8 hours per week “in office” time. Other arrangements for remote work are possible for the remaining hours.
Hours per week: 20-25 hours per week
Required Experience and Skills:
A minimum of three to five years of full or part-time accounting experience in a public or private organization of a size comparable to Arvada UMC ($1 million operating budget with a staff payroll of up to 40). Experience in a non-profit organization is preferred
Demonstrated knowledge and mastery of standard accounting software systems and Excel, with preferred knowledge of the ShelbyNext church management software
Enthusiasm and respect for the mission and values of AUMC
Proven commitment to confidentiality regarding account records and finances
Must pass a background check and have finger-prints on file prior to full employment

Evidence of exceptional organizational and clear communications skills
Willingness to work with others, be a team player, and participate in the staff of AUMC
Primary Responsibilities
Accounting
Create weekly/monthly/annual reports for respective teams and clergy
Process accounts receivable and payable for church and KDD
Maintain General Ledger and reconcile to donor system, donations, income, and disbursements
Coordinate communication and accounting for accounts with AUMC Foundation and Mountain Sky Foundation
Coordinate audits and reviews in consultation with the Administrative Ministry Team (Finance Team)
Human Relations
Coordinate HR and payroll work through ADP, including submission of timesheets, processing payroll, and making pension payments
Management of all staff tax forms, enrollments, IRS forms, etc.
Coordinate onboarding and employee personnel file upkeep
Provide reports as necessary to Administrative Ministry Team (SPR Team) and clergy
Update and disseminate personnel policies with Administrative Ministry Team (SPR Team) and clergy
Other Administration:
Attend weekly staff meetings and regular quarterly Administration/Finance meetings, and other meetings as needed
Annual reporting of church finances and data to Mountain Sky Conference/EZRA
Resourcing reports, mailings and follow up for fund development (stewardship)
Interact with staff, congregation, visitors, and vendors
Physical Expectation:
Good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination and the ability to use hands in quick, repetitive motion is required to perform data entry and reporting duties and operate common office equipment. Computer work requires extended periods of time in a seated position. Light physical activity including occasional bending, squatting, standing, walking and lifting lightweight materials up to 35 pounds.
