Minister of Congregational Care

POSITION TITLE:             Pastor/Minister of Congregational Care
 
REPORTS TO:                  Lead Pastor, GUMC Administrative Board
 
STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Pastor/Minister of Congregational Care has the responsibility for overseeing pastoral care to the parishioners of Grace UMC. They work with the Lead Pastor and the Ambassadors to offer spiritual care for adults, youth, and children in the Grace community, especially members of our home-worshipping community. The Pastor/Minister of Congregational Care provides for:

  1. Staff leadership of the Ambassadors Care Program, working with the Co-lead Ambassador to support the ministry of the Care Team.
  2. Regular (negotiable within hours) fellowship and visits to members of Grace’s home-worshipping congregation.
  3. Visits to parishioners who are in the hospital, hospice, or other healthcare facilities in consultation with the Lead Pastor. 
  4. Assistance to the Lead Pastor in developing an effective pastoral care ministry for Grace, which may include exploration, training, and transition to Stephen Ministry.
  5. Attendance monthly staff meetings for programmatic, visionary, and pastoral care updates.
  6. Attendance Sunday worship at least monthly, preaching quarterly or as negotiated with the Lead Pastor.
 
HOURS INVOLVED:                         Hourly Position (average 6 hours per week)
HOURLY RATE:                                $35 per hour
MAJOR DUTIES:
 
  1. Visit home-worshippers on a regular schedule for fellowship and Holy Communion.
  2. Visit parishioners facing health crises or end-of-life care.
  3. Work with the Lead Pastor for funeral and memorial service support or participation as negotiated.
  4. Attend monthly staff meetings in-person or virtually.
  5. Attend Sunday worship at least monthly, participating in worship on high holy days (Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Paschal Triduum, Pentecost, and All Saints).
  6. Preach in Sunday worship at least quarterly.
  7. Attend Ambassadors meetings as needed.
 
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATION:
 
Education:     Bachelor’s Degree. M.Div. preferred, but not required with appropriate experience and/or graduate theological education.
 
Skills:             Commitment to collaborative, creative, and innovative ministry in a flexible work environment. Relevant experience in a church, hospital, hospice or other ministry setting. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Computer proficiency skills.
