Choir Director and Musical Leader, Part Time - Broomfield UMC, Broomfield , Colorado

Sunrise Singers is a small vocal ensemble that supports an 8:00 am traditionally-styled worship service through special music anthems and leadership for congregational singing.  The ensemble is active late-August through early-June, meeting for weekly rehearsals and Sunday services.  The repertoire is varied and ranges from traditional hymn arrangements to spirituals to classic praise choruses.  A key to the ensemble’s success is accessible repertoire selected with amateur, aging voices in mind.  Sunrise Singers joins forces with the congregation’s other vocal ensembles several times a year including Christmas Eve, Easter, and an annual Christmas Cantata.
 
In addition to leading the vocal ensemble, this position is responsible for helping facilitate the overall musical worship content of the 8 am service including scheduling and preparing musicians to provide special music in the choir’s absence as well as working with the Associate Director of Worship Arts in worship planning and design.

Primary Qualifications:

• Desire to lead a vocal ensemble whose purpose extends beyond singing to meet the human and spiritual needs of its members
• Flexible musical palette and ability to select repertoire that fits well with a small amateur vocal ensemble
• Positive and relational leadership style that helps create a positive and uplifting experience for volunteer musicians
• Basic understanding of the singing voice with special emphasis on the aging voice
• Foundational skills as a vocal ensemble director: rehearsal planning and pacing, choral conducting, repertoire planning, etc.
• Prefer at least 2 years of experience working with a vocal/choral ensemble in a sacred setting
