Family Ministry Director - First United Methodist Church, Grand Junction, Colorado

The Family Ministry Director will work with the church staff and a team of volunteers to promote and nurture faith formation in children and families—developing and nurturing a ministry for all types of families—striving to guide and support them as they grow in Christian discipleship. The Director’s role is to develop and provide spiritual, relational, organizational, and administrative leadership and oversee the Christian education program for children and families. The Director shall seek to foster a strong education program by building relationships among teachers, students, parents and church leaders.

- Classification: Program Staff, Salaried, Full-time
- Compensation: $30,000-$40,000 annually (based on education and experience); includes holidays and vacations; no health benefits
- Work Hours: 40 hours per week; this position requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. The number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. It is expected that the Director will work on Sunday morning and be available at both worship services.

Qualifications
The Family Ministry Director should have a solid understanding of the foundations of Christian faith, and who has a strong desire to nurture children and families in the Christian faith. This person should be able to generate new ideas and programs, value the team concept of ministry, and be willing to accept suggestions from others. Further qualifications:
- Spiritual gifts relevant to the area of family ministry
- Sense of call and passion for working with children and families
- Demonstrate a life that models good personal discipleship and leadership development practices
- Sound knowledge of scripture and an ability to effectively apply spiritual principles in age appropriate and creative ways that lead to a solid spiritual foundation
- Demonstrate strong leadership, management, and teamwork skills while working with staff, lay leaders, volunteers, and other ministries personnel
- Ability to reach out to all types and ages of people, consistently exhibiting trustworthiness and faith
- Ability to delegate and empower others
- Ability to be an active and open-minded listener in order to hear all sides of an issue
- Being a self-motivated, people-oriented individual who can create, develop, and implement effective ministry strategies for his/her areas of responsibility, and is open to trying new things when appropriate
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good organizational, teaching, administration, and computer/technology skills
- Ability to effectively deal with conflict
- Submit to a background check as required by law
- Be CPR/First Aid certified (may be certified after being hired)
