Aspen Community Church is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Organist/Music Director. This position may be filled by two individuals, or combined into one position, depending on qualifications.
The Aspen Community Church is a United Methodist congregation in Aspen, Colorado. Music is a vibrant part of worship and is valued highly. Our organ is a 1958 Wicks with 30 ranks, and is one of the largest on the western slope of Colorado. We also have occasional use for our Steinway Model B piano. We host a winter organ concert series and enjoy a strong relationship with the Aspen Music Festival and School, serving as one of their recital venues during the summer.
Organist responsibilities include:
Provide music for regular services (once each Sunday) and additional seasonal services
Accompany additional special music during services when required
Accompany the choir for all rehearsals and services
Oversee regular maintenance of musical instruments
Maintain an organized library of organ music belonging to the church
Music Director responsibilities include:
Provide direction and leadership for all choir rehearsals and services. Our choir meets seasonally for rehearsals to prepare for Christmas and Easter, and provides music at regular services throughout the summer (late June through the end of August).
Select and order music, and maintain an organized library of choral music belonging to the church
Work to enhance choir membership both through community outreach and hiring of choral scholars on a limited budget
Organist qualifications include:
Excellent musicianship, demonstrating professional training or ability specific to organ
Ability to enrich worship through hymn playing which includes creative introductions, modulations and re-harmonizations
Friendly, team-oriented demeanor and professional manner
Music Director qualifications include:
Enthusiastic, friendly and gentle leadership ability
Ability to work closely with pastor in selecting music that will be meaningful to worship
Knowledge of lectionary and appropriate liturgy
Strong conducting and vocal pedagogy skills
Salary: $16,000 annually that it would be split according to responsibilities if filled by two separate individuals
