YOUTH DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Overview:  The Youth Director leads the ministry for middle and high school youth.  A passion for youth and their spiritual development as followers of Christ in the Wesleyan tradition, is a must.  Strong Christian faith, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work with adult volunteers are a must.  This is a part-time (approximately 20-hours per week) position. 
 
Job Responsibilities:

  • Connect with youth of the church, their friends, and their families.

  • Plan and lead weekly youth group gatherings (including games and studies) to develop relationships among and with the youth and to foster their spiritual growth.

  • Recruit and train adult volunteers to work with middle and high school youth.

  • Help youth to develop their gifts and to take on leadership roles.

  • Coordinate and communicate about youth activities with youth, their families, church staff, the congregation, and the greater community.

  • Provide opportunities for youth to serve in the church, in the community, and through mission trips.

  • Be familiar with youth and the middle and high schools from which they come (particularly Chatfield HS next door to the church, Dakota Ridge HS, and Columbine HS).

  • Create, develop leaders for, and execute all youth spiritual growth programs (youth group, Bible studies, Confirmation, etc.).

  • Encourage youth and their families to participate in all facets of the life of the church community including worship, fellowship and service opportunities, youth activities, mission projects, etc.

  • Be open to connecting with other United Methodist Youth Directors in the area and to opportunities for continuing education, as appropriate.

  • Ensure that all youth ministries are compliant with Safe Sanctuary policies.

  • Participate in regular staff meetings.

  • Manage the budgeted and designated funds for youth.

  • Act as contact person and charter representative for HUMC-sponsored Boy Scout troops.

  • Other duties as assigned by Senior Pastor.

Desired Technical Skills:
  • Ability to communicate in verbal and written form through letters, e-mail, text messages, and social media. 
This position is a part-time position (twenty hours per week) with no benefits. This position works under the day-to-day supervision of the Senior Pastor and ultimately is responsible to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
