Treasurer and Director of Administrative Services - Kentucky Annual Conference UMC, Crestwood, Kentucky

The Kentucky Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church is currently seeking a Conference Treasurer and Director of Administrative Services. This role is responsible for managing the overall function of the financial and administrative services office.

Primary Roles:
  • Responsible for Board of Pension & Health Benefits Administration and Strategic Planning regarding Pension and Health Benefits in conjunction with the Board of Pension & Health Benefits
  • Advise local churches in financial matters regarding apportionments, budgeting, financial management, taxation, property management, personnel management and benefits
  • Represent the Conference and interpret budgets and other financial matters to various local church and Conference groups
  • Responsible for receiving and disbursement of remittances from local churches in accordance with the Book of Discipline
  • Administer central treasury for all Conference Board and Agencies as agreed upon with the Council on Finance and Administration
  • Responsible for development of financial fund accounting system to ensure accurate financial reports based on properly authorized transactions for all agencies in the central treasury
  • Responsible for cash management and investments in accordance with policies of the Council on Finance and Administration
  • Responsible for the development of the Kentucky Annual Conference budget
  • Responsible for providing regular financial statements to the Bishop, District Superintendents, Annual Conference, Council on Finance and Administration, and General Council on Finance and Administration
  • Responsible for managing the overall process of General and local church apportionment collections and payments
  • Provide counsel and guidance to local church business administrators, treasurers, financial secretaries, and Committees on Finance in the development of standardized financial recording and reporting systems which is in cooperation with the General Council on Finance and Administration and the General Board of Discipleship
  • Recommend and administer policies adopted by the Council and other Conference Boards and Agencies
  • Assist all Conference Boards and Agencies in financial budgeting and business matters as needed
  • Supervise and direct all Treasurer’s Office, Benefits Team and Information Technology personnel
  • Responsible for the operation of the Conference office
  • Review accounts receivable, accounts payable reconciliations, bank reconciliations and any other reconciliations
  • Approve journal entries and invoices
  • Review payroll register
  • Directs management of all Conference property
  • Communicate salary/wage and benefits information to new staff, when changes occur, and for staff members’ final paychecks.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or similar field required. Master’s in Business Administration or similar field preferred, or an Elder or Deacon in the United Methodist Church
  • Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Management Accountant preferred
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of supervisory experience in accounting or business management is required
  • 3-5 years experience in a non-profit environment preferred
  • Experience with consolidated financial reporting and consolidated financial statement preparation
  • Experience in developing financial policies
  • Demonstrated understanding of nonprofit investment and fund accounting
  • Demonstrated understanding of post-retirement and other employee benefit obligations
  • Expertise in developing, analyzing and monitoring large scale budgets
  • Demonstrated understanding of the polity of the United Methodist Church
  • Member of the United Methodist Church preferred
