Worship Music Leader - Evergreen UMC, Evergreen, CO

Worship Music Leader is needed for Evergreen UMC. The position is part-time on Sunday mornings plus special services for two worship services. Evergreen UMC is a church of 151-250 people in Evergreen, a mountain suburb of Denver, 15 minutes from the west side of the metro area.

Major Responsibilities:

Leading the congregation in dynamic singing, bringing the best of the old and the best of the new as an integral part of our worship glorifying Christ and bringing discipleship growth. We value a collaborative and supportive relationship between contemporary and traditional elements for our music ministry. Keyboard/piano/organ accompanist provided. There is also the option to serve as the choir director when this is able to resume post-COVID19 restrictions.

Qualifications
Quality vocalist.
Song leading experience.
A dedicated follower of Christ with heart, mind and soul.
Post-secondary education or degree required. Undergraduate vocal music study beneficial.
Ability to lead and inspire others to participate in authentic worship through music.
Able to work cooperatively and collaboratively.
Love and respect for all people.
Sense of humor and a positive attitude.
A self-motivated learner committed to personal and professional development.
Proficient in piano or guitar beneficial.

Primary responsibilities
Lead congregation in hymns during worship, primarily from the three current UMC songbooks/hymn books, though other theologically compatible Christian songs welcome.
Teach the congregation unfamiliar hymns/songs.
Perform special vocals on a regular basis.
Coordinate with the pastor music which will engage the congregation and honor Christ, appropriate for the focus of the worship scriptures and message.
Encourage and mentor other vocalists and instrumentalists to be part of worship.
Seek to grow the music program for all ages – including children and youth {salary would increase with increased program development].

Additional qualifications for optional choir director role
Directing experience, including with SATB parts.
Sound musical knowledge.
Ability to interpret various styles of music.
Ability to select and prepare appropriate songs for the skill level of choir.
Strong leadership and listening skills.
Effective communicator.
Patient and caring.
Ability to lead the choir through weekly rehearsals & performing musical selections for worship and special services September - May.
