As we write this invitation, we look back on a summer with unprecedented heatwaves, wildfires, and smoke across the western U.S. These extreme weather events, which scientists confirm are exacerbated by human-caused climate change, are a potent reminder that we need to take action for the sake of our children and grandchildren and the natural world.
With this goal in mind, Bishop Karen Oliveto approved the creation of a Creation Justice Task Force on Earth Day, April 24, 2021. We were charged to build a resource and community in the Mountain Sky Conference to support local churches and move us all forward to greater stewardship of our natural world. We were created to promote the best care of God’s creation on all levels. We hope to provide support for education and growth in our churches promoting best practices for corporate and individual life.
Our CREATION JUSTICE TASK FORCE operates through a collection of small working groups. We invite you to explore each group's webpage to learn more about our efforts. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions, ideas, or insights you might have at creationjustice@mtnskyumc.org
God's Renewed Creation: A Call to Hope and Action is the title of a Pastoral Letter issued by the Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church. This movie illustrates statements from the letter.
