The Mountain Sky Conference of The United Methodist Church will live in God’s grace and abundance
as we lead a re-energized peaceful and compassionate movement to claim
the life-changing love of Jesus Christ for ALL people.
“The Mountain Sky Area will re-energize a Christian movement that begins with grace, offers abundant life, and reclaims the life-changing love of Jesus Christ for ALL people.”
Goal statement for the Mountain Sky Conference
Part 3 of an ongoing series focusing on the work of the Mission Shaped Future team to design a new conference that will focus on strengthening our local congregations.
The Mountain Sky Area is on the forefront of using technology to shrink the distance between people. By having more meetings through video conferencing, we are allowing a more diverse group of people to participate in the work of the area. But this technology isn’t limited to only administrative functions.
This advent marks the return of our digital devotions. With a single click people from all over the area can join together for a morning devotional experience. The highlight for me comes at the end of each as we all unmute and share in the Lord’s prayer together. To hear people from across four states and beyond offer up prayer at one time is a true blessing. Jenny Mahoney, lay person form Simpson UMC in Denver shared this about the digital devotion experience, “The devotional provides a structure and supportive community that is accessible no matter where I physically happen to be. It helps me pause, pray, and make space to listen for God.” Renne Smith from Rawlins Wyoming shares, “The daily devotion helps me to slow down and wake up, so to speak, to the necessity of centering myself so I can be present in all of my relationships.”
Nobody imagines that our new geography won’t come with challenges. At the same time, we also understand that access to the wide open and raw landscapes of our area is what attracts most of us to live here. I believe we gain far more than we lose in our coming together and we will continue to apply the inventive can-do spirit that permeates our area to find ways to deal with whatever comes our way. In the end, our success will come from neighbor connecting with neighbor. By shifting focus away from centralized organization and control to regional opportunities like circuit church conference and district gathering we are giving far more people the ability to connect to one another. This can’t help but make us more effective in our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. And when we do that, we cannot help but re-energize a Christian movement that begins with grace, offers abundant life, and reclaims the life-changing love of Jesus Christ for ALL people.
