When lay and clergy delegates head for annual conference this year, their top question will be "what's the future of The United Methodist Church?" Rumors, proposals, petitions, fears and anxieties are evident everywhere following the aftermath of the 2019 Special General Conference and the rulings of the Judicial Council.

In response, the United Methodist Association of Retired Clergy (UMARC) is holding two forums – a pre-conference session on Thursday morning, June 13 and a breakfast on Friday, June 14 – at the Mountain Sky Annual Conference in Billings, Montana for delegates to learn what is happening and to express their feelings and concerns.

Pre-Conference Session
On Thursday, June 13 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Red Lion Inn in Billings, just prior to the opening of the Mountain Sky Annual Conference, there will be a free-pre-conference session exploring the future of United Methodism. Anticipated participation will be from 50-150 people, with the understanding persons may not be able to attend the entire session.

A variety of speakers will share their perspectives and most recent information. Already slated are Richard Marsh, the Rev. Megan Armstrong and the Rev. Brad Laurvick. Additional speakers will be announced as developments from the various denominational entities and gatherings become known. The Judicial Council decisions and various Annual Conference petitions will be explained.  There will be ample time for questions and discussion. Resources will be available for folks to take home to help their local congregations educate, discuss and respond to the ongoing process of determining the future of United Methodism.

Friday Breakfast
On Friday, June 14 at 6:45 a.m., laity and clergy are invited to a special breakfast that will explore national and international perspectives on "The Future of United Methodism." The breakfast will provide a forum to share information about recent denominational developments and proposals, including perspectives shared at the pre-session consultation. Speakers will be announced in the near future.

Registration
Registration is possible for both events by clicking on www.umarc.org or the Mountain Sky Conference registration. The pre-conference session is free, but the special breakfast requires paid reservations. If you are attending the entire 2019 Mountain Sky Annual Conference, register online here.
