Glendive UMC Assembles Against Gun Violence

August 13, 2019
On August 13, 2019, from 12:00-1:00 p.m.,  members and friends of Glendive UMC gathered on the lawn of the church to advocate for an end to racism,  gun violence, a ban on assault weapons and to remind the community that God is our refuge.    On Sunday, August 11, 2019, after the horrific weekend of three mass killings perpetrated in the name of nationalism, racism and hate, Pastor Carol Rhan invited the congregation to join her and her husband, Larry Condon,  in an act of Social Holiness.   Of the thirteen folks who stood in 95 degree weather for an hour, most, including Pastor Carol and Larry, had never participated in this sort of public display of advocacy.  This event was also especially significant because local social media boards had made dozens of ugly comments about the actions of the church.   Of course, in the end, holiness and love prevailed and there were no incidents.  In addition to United Methodists, there were Roman Catholics and a Mennonite.
