As United Methodists, we have been called to be
United Against Racism. As outlined
here, part of that work requires us to pray, connect, show up , and act. This is continual and ongoing work. This is also work that we can do together. May we pray for and with one another. May we connect for deep listening, mutual support, and accountability. May we show up with our voices and presence. May we act in ways that dismantle racism and build up beloved community.
Many congregations throughout our Mountain Sky Conference are hosting book studies, learning groups, panel discussions, and other various opportunities to engage in this important and necessary work. If your congregation has a learning and/or action opportunity that is open to our wider conference connection, please share the information through the link below. We will be calling this shared work “Racial Justice: Together We Journey.” Together, we will pray, connect, show up and act.
Please share your information
HERE, 4-6 weeks prior to your event or learning opportunity, for wider distribution.
To start off this shared work, Evergreen UMC has an opportunity for anyone to participate in.
Hosting Church: Evergreen UMC
Opportunity: A Journey Toward Racial Justice; 8-week study
Engagement: Each week, you will be asked to review articles, videos and/or websites online and then have a conversation about the assignment on a 1-hour Zoom gathering. The assignments should take 60 minutes or less each week to complete. During the 8 weeks, it is our hope that you will:
- Become conscious of, and lose the guilt that prevents action, and your own personal biases.
- Review a portion of the history of Black and Indigenous peoples; history that was not likely in our history books.
- Identify what you can do to become an effective ally.
There will be 2 different 8-week sessions offered via Zoom. With the hopes of creating a space for brave conversation, each session is limited to 12 participants:
Option One, facilitated by
