Telling Our Whole Story: Uncovering the Truth

December 22, 2021

The Racial Justice Movement and Ministries (RJMM) team is seeking historical accounts surrounding racial justice and White supremacy in the geographic area of the Mountain Sky Annual Conference from the local church level up to the Annual Conference. Our Methodist history is bound up with tragic occurrences of violence, exploitation, and genocide that can be traced to the power of white supremacy, xenophobia, and racism in our nation's history and we need your help in more deeply understanding these stories.

We have drawn together a prospectus that specifically defines what we are looking for and our hope is to gather as many accounts as we can. This will help us know our own story deeply as we seek out ways to engage in the work of repentance as an Annual Conference.

A team of judges will adjudicate all submissions and the RJMM team will determine two winners who present the highest caliber of work. The first prize will consist of a cash reward of $500, the winning submission being published in the Mountain Sky Annual Conference journal, and the opportunity for the winner to present their findings to the people of the Mountain Sky Annual Conference when they meet in 2022 with registration, room and board expenses covered. The runner-up prize will consist of a cash reward of $250. All useful submissions will be published together in a collection that will be edited and distributed by the Mountain Sky Annual Conference.

You can find the prospectus HERE. Thank you for your interest in helping us uncover more of our untold story!

* Inspiration for the Logo: drawing the circle wider, this work can have ripple effects, if we dig deeper we will find that the story is much larger and deeper than we realize, we get a more complete understanding.
