The camp boards of both Flathead Lake United Methodist Camp and Luccock Park United Methodist Camp and the Mountain Sky Conference are proud to welcome The Sheer Family and the Tongue Family to the Mountain Sky family. Carole and Brandon will start in April as the new managers at Flathead Lake United Methodist Camp, and Steve Tongue will start in May as the new manager at Luccock Park United Methodist Camp. You can read their bio's below.
The Scheer family includes Brandon, Jonah (10), Micah (11), Levi (7) and Carole.
Brandon grew up in St. Louis, MO, active in Boy Scouts and his church. He continued on to college at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon, with a degree in Christian Education, emphasizing Camping Ministry. He also enjoys competing in triathlon and looks forward to running, cycling and swimming in Montana.
Carole grew up near FLUMC in both Bigfork and Plains, MT. She attended Carroll College, attaining a degree in Psychology, and later Western Washington University for her Elementary Education Certification. She enjoys baking, gardening and exploring with their three boys.
Brandon and Carole Scheer served at Camp Lutherwood in Bellingham, WA for five years, then moving to Vancouver, WA. After a hiatus from camping ministry to work in education and construction the Scheer’s come to us most recently from Ocean Park Camp and Retreat Center on the SW Washington coast.
As a family they love traveling, camping, hiking, biking, and playing board games. The Scheer’s are excited to return to Montana after 17 years on the west coast. They are looking forward to adventures hiking, kayaking, snowboarding and experiencing a lot more sunshine than they have in Western Washington! Steve's background is engineering, early in his career serving 3 years as Operations Manager for a Lutheran camp and retreat center in WA - Holden Village located in the North Cascade Mountains.  Afterwards, he launched a 25-year career  in healthcare facilities management - primarily in northern Michigan.  While raising their family (3 daughters), they connected with camp ministry experiences both at Holden, and at Cedar Campus (Intervarsity Christian Fellowship) in a variety of volunteer roles.  Fast forward to "empty-nester land", and Steve and Amy felt the "nudge" to return to camp ministry in full-time capacity - just in time to land at Holden for Covid shut down.  Serving as part of a small "caretaker community"  - they re-opened the camp to guests this past July.  Their two-year assignment coming to a close - they have been on the lookout for what God might have next  - and then met the wonderful folks at Luccock  - leading to this new adventure!
Amy's background is horticulture, as well as home-school mom - but more recently she has been serving in Program at Holden as Naturalist and Hike Haus - leading educational programs such as stream ecology, foraging, cross country ski lessons, fire ecology, star walks and geology -  just to name a few.
In their free time they enjoy backpacking, mountain biking, music and baking pies.  They also serve in ministry leading Sunday School, Bible Study and Worship. You can reach Brandon at luccockmanager@gmail.com
