Bishop Karen P. Oliveto has announced her intention to appoint the Reverend Mark Calhoun as the new superintendent for the Wyoming District, effective July 1, 2020. Calhoun currently serves as pastor of Lander United Methodist Church in Lander, WY.

Bishop Oliveto said, "Mark brings a deep spirituality as well as a great love for Wyoming to the work of district superintendent. He possesses a strong commitment to the people he serves as well as a compelling vision for ministry for these days we are living. I look forward to all he will bring to this role."

"As Wyoming District Superintendent, I will serve as an extension of the office of our Bishop and I will have the opportunity to support, encourage, and walk alongside the 38 United Methodist churches in our great state," said Calhoun. "Our eight years at Lander UMC have been enriching, life-giving, and a great blessing to our family. We are thankful for the experiences we’ve had serving this incredible congregation and for the opportunities that we have had to share a season in the life of a church that has cared for this community for over 135 years. We’ve been blessed by the past, we’re mindful of the present, and we are hopeful and excited as we engage the future endeavors that lie ahead of us."

Calhoun also serves as co-secretary for the Mountain Sky Conference and was elected a delegate to the General and Jurisdictional conferences, now to be held in 2021. He previously served as a delegate in 2012. Calhoun also serves on the Western Jurisdiction Committee on Episcopacy and the Leadership Team. Locally, he served as a representative on Lander's City Council from 2015 to 2018.

Calhoun earned his Master of Divinity in 2008 from the Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas and was ordained an elder in 2010 in the legacy Yellowstone Annual Conference. Other churches he has served include East Heights UMC in Wichita, KS from 2003 to 2008, Polson UMC in Polson, MT from 2008 to 2012, and Lander UMC, which he has been appointed to since 2012.

Calhoun and his family will continue to reside in Lander, WY during his term. Please pray for them in this time of transition.
