With the creation of the Creation Justice Task Force, our Mountain Sky Conference will join a larger movement within our denomination. There is a growing momentum to connect many existing organizations, individuals, and groups within the United Methodist Church who care about and are working towards a more unified voice calling for Creation Care from our faith perspective.
This United Methodist Creation Justice Movement has a website that can be found here: www.umcreationjustice.org.
Here is the statement of mission, vision, and purpose from that website.
The mission of the UMC Creation Justice Movement is to participate with the Spirit of God in connecting and supporting groups within the United Methodist Church and beyond for the work of creation care, justice, and regeneration.
The UMC Creation Justice Movement exists to 1) Connect existing and emerging UM creation efforts at all levels of the church for mutual support and inspiration, 2) Uplift the leadership and voices of frontline communities, 3) Collaborate with denominational, ecumenical, interfaith, environmental justice, community, and civic organizations and movements to achieve shared aims of socio-ecological justice, and 4) Mobilize the power of a “network of networks” within and outside the UMC for collective witness, action, public policy advocacy, and transformation.
The UM Creation Justice Movement is connected with many United Methodists groups including Global Ministries Earth Keepers, United Methodist Women, Church and Society, Caretakers of God’s Creation, General Board of Higher Education, many annual conferences and local church "green teams," and people involved with camping and retreat ministries.
As our Mountain Sky Creation Justice Task Force forms, we hope to network and build strength and resources to support our local churches as we explore this important and urgent work.
Please reach out to the Creation Justice Task Force at creationjustice@mtnskyumc.org for more information.
