Executive for Candidacy, Office of Deaconess and Home Missioner
The lay Order of Deaconess and Home Missioner is an order within the United Methodist Church that can be found in the Book of Discipline (paragraph 1913). We are laity who have responded to a call of God in our lives to full-time ministries of love, justice and service. Deaconesses and Home Missioners make lifetime commitments to this work and are consecrated and commissioned to specific ministries. Some examples of ministries include ministry with refugees and immigrants, advocacy, healthcare, civil rights, education, homelessness, women, children, youth, peace with justice, senior adults and more.
As you encounter people in your congregations and churches, or as you listen to God’s call in your life, please share information on this opportunity for laity to have a relationship with the church and be part of a covenant community that comes together for worship, professional development, theological training and support.
There is a discernment event coming to the Mountain Sky conference May 31-June 2 at Christ Church UMC, Denver, Colorado, and we would love for you to help us spread the word! The event is free, and meals and housing are provided.
