Lay Servant Ministries, Mile High Metro District, Mountain Sky Conference
On March 9, the lay servants of the Mile High Metro District gathered to attend their first annual meeting. The host church was Jefferson Avenue in Wheat Ridge, Colorado and the theme was "Empowered Laity." The guests included Yvonne Clary, director of the Mountain Sky Conference Lay Servant Ministries, and the keynote speaker was the Rev. Betty Nguyen.
The meeting started off with short thoughts by Yvonne on lay servanthood in our conference. Faye Veal and Curtis Gay spoke on Matthew 5:14-15, which included a group discussion on the admired attributes of leaders. After everyone helped themselves to food, Betty gave a talk on how the gifts and graces of the laity are a blessing to our churches and communities. She also reflected on how we are better together than apart; and that there can be transformation when we build partnerships between clergy and laity, churches with churches, and between churches and the community. Her keynote was followed by small group discussions reflecting on the ways in which serving as a lay servant is life-giving and opportunities that are before us.
After a closing prayer by Coke Burdick, everyone left having experienced a very warm Methodist fellowship.
