What do youth mission trips, support for survivors of commercial sexual exploitation, an online community for the spiritually curious, a new shared campus of two churches, and outreach to the homeless have in common? Early this month, teams of ministry entrepreneurs came together at Saint Andrew United Methodist Church for a 2.5-day retreat to develop these ideas at the Mountain Sky Hatchathon 2022.
What is a Hatchathon? Led by a team from
Ministry Incubators and hosted by the Mountain Sky Conference Congregational Vitality Committee, the Hatchathon gives space, time, and the right conditions to move a ministry idea from concept to launch. Participants arrive with an idea and leave with a clear and compellingly articulated vision for a new ministry along with many tools to move that social enterprise to launch. And the process doesn’t end there. After the Hatchathon, each participating team receives twelve months of coaching with a Ministry Incubators coach. And all the groups gather quarterly by zoom and once more in-person in the Spring for a Pivot Retreat (because our projects never go exactly according to plan).
This year’s August was our third Hatchathon and we are very excited to see how this class will launch their projects. Past participants have included:
- Rev. David Petty who launched Crossfire: faith+gaming,
- a ministry team from The Lantern, an emerging faith community in Englewood, CO,
- a ministry team from Native Grace Fellowship in Cortez, CO,
- and many more!
