Pastors give ecumenical response, support in light of Westboro Baptist Church protests

Wheat Ridge, Colo. – On Dec. 17, members of Westboro Baptist Church will be demonstrating at Denver area churches: the Wheat Ridge United Methodist Church, Wheat Ridge Congregational United Church of Christ, Clear Creek Church and Heritage Christian Center in Aurora, Colorado. The Wheat Ridge Police Department will be present at the three demonstrations in Wheat Ridge, ensuring safety for members attending church on Sunday morning.

As we worship, we will be praying for the people from Westboro, in Colorado and in our world. Our faith communities believe in extending love and grace to all our sisters and brothers, regardless of their religious affiliation, ethnicity and race, ability, economic situation, sexual orientation and gender. We strive to create a Beloved Community, where we transform the world through loving acts of kindness, generosity and hospitality.

We will continue our mission to be an open and welcoming community where all know that they are a child of God. Thank you.
