Many folks know the punchline to the joke, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” The answer: “Practice, practice, practice!” And that’s what 50 singers from Trinity United Methodist Church’s Chancel Choir and Youth Choir have been doing the past several weeks to prepare for a special concert in New York City’s Carnegie Hall on Friday, Nov. 25.

Led by Judith Mitchell, Trinity’s Director of Music and Arts, choir members will join the New York Festival Chamber Orchestra and approximately 185 other singers from around the nation in “A Christmas Holiday Spectacular.” This performance is in honor of the 60th birthday of composer John Leavitt and will feature the premiere of his new Christmas Cantata, What Sweeter Music. The mass choir will also sing a casual recital at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine while in town.

Trinity’s singers and travel companions will have the opportunity to explore popular sights around New York City, including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and balloon blow-up the night prior, the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, Broadway shows and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
