Vital Conversations: Faith, Social Justice, and Community Organizing on Feb. 10

February 04, 2021

In her poem "Turning to Wonder," Margaret Wheatley starts by saying, "There is no power greater than a community discovering what it cares about." Like Jesus, we are called to learn and recognize the needs within our communities, to gather people together who care, and to seek justice and dignity for all. We are grateful to welcome Adrienne Aguirre Deshaies who will help us consider our role as the church, as people of faith within the public square.

Adrienne Aguirre Deshaies is a bilingual community organizer for the statewide nonprofit, Together Colorado.  She supports groups of community leaders in the Denver Metro Area and Adams County by providing them with guidance, skill development, and leadership training to accomplish systemic change in the areas of education and immigration justice.  Prior to becoming an organizer, Adrienne was a teacher for DPS and on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

More about Together Colorado: Together Colorado is a nonpartisan, multi-racial and multi-faith community organization working to place human dignity at the center of public life in Colorado. Faith drives us to organize for a better world for our children and our children’s children. Leaders with Together Colorado organize to create a society where everyone can thrive, without exception. We desire a world where all people live a life of dignity, one where all people have the freedom, the ability, and the right to flourish physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
