Wesley Pilgrimage Scholarship deadline reminder

January 29, 2019
Lay and clergy leaders interested in the 2019 Wesley Pilgrimage in England may apply for a scholarship that will greatly reduce the cost of their trip. Together with United Methodist partner agencies, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM), the United Methodist Church’s leadership development agency, is offering scholarships that cover 50 percent of the registration fee.

The Wesley Pilgrimage is an annual 10-day spiritual journey in which participants walk in the footsteps of Methodism’s founders, John and Charles Wesley. Participants explore Epworth, the Wesleys’ birthplace; Oxford, where John and Charles led the Holy Club; Bristol, where the class meeting was developed and Methodism became a movement; and London, where both Wesley brothers experienced assurance of salvation. In addition to the abundant opportunities to learn, pray and worship, the trip also serves as a springboard for new spiritual connections and friendships among pilgrims from all over the world.

The 2019 pilgrimage takes place July 8-18 and the deadline to apply for scholarships is Jan. 30. GBHEM is offering scholarships for commissioned provisional elders and deacons and local pastors. Other agencies are offering scholarships for lay servants and certified lay ministers. There are no location restrictions and interested applicants from around the world may apply.
There are, however, limited funds for scholarships, so those interested should apply immediately.

Prospective pilgrims can find out more about the event here. The scholarships will be awarded on Feb. 12 and recipients will receive notice that they can now register for the Wesley Pilgrimage at a reduced fee.

The 2019 Wesley Pilgrimage in England is sponsored by GBHEM, The Upper Room, Discipleship Ministries and the General Commission on Archives and History.
