Young People's Ministry Developer and Mission & Ministry Projects Coordinator, Rocky Mountain Conference
The young people of the Rocky Mountain Conference have been busy over the last few weeks, and would love to invite you to share in the excitement!
Over the last weekend of April, around 150 middle school students, youth workers, and chaperones headed out to Frontier Ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado for Youth Quest. Youth Quest is the annual middle school retreat Rocky Mountain Conference (RMC) of The United Methodist Church. During their time together, these young people were in conversations about hospitality, Beloved Community, and welcoming the stranger. Kenya Cummings, an activist, educator, and long time youth worker, was the keynote speaker for the weekend, and the youth were led in worship by "Chasing Eden" of St. George, Utah.
Throughout the weekend the youth raised more than $800 for the Youth Service Fund, with proceeds going to Share and Fresh Water, a United Methodist ministry in Brazil serving at-risk indigenous children.
Last weekend, both incoming and outgoing members of the Conference Council on Youth Ministry met at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Thorton, Colorado to go over plans for youth programming between now and 2018 Joint AC. These young leaders met with the Reverend Youngsook Kang, Director of Mission and Ministry of the Rocky Mountain Conference, to discuss the vision of RMC, and ways for young voices to be heard.
At this meeting, young leaders discussed plans for an upcoming youth and young adult town hall with Bishop Oliveto. On Wednesday, May 16 from 6:30-8 p.m., all youth and young adults in the Mountain Sky Area are invited to join this important
Zoom call to discuss the Mission Shaped Future (MSF) proposal and its impact on Young People's Ministries.
Finally, the youth will bring fun events to Annual Conference! They will have plenty of Young People Ministries (YPM) swag for your church, and will be encouraging folks to stop by the YPM display for a selfie with our young leaders.
