Commission on Religion and Race

Conference Commission on Religion and Race

We believe that God’s vision is for a fully inclusive Church that is accountable for and proactive in addressing all forms of racial/ethnic oppression, and where all members strive, as disciples of Jesus Christ, to build God’s beloved community. The Commission on Religion and Race works to empower people and transform institutions to create inclusive, multicultural relationships and ministries. This is done through teaching, advocacy and by reviewing and monitoring the practices of the Conference so as to further ensure racial inclusiveness as we make disciples for the transformation of the world.

Diversifying Leadership

The Commission on Religion and Race suggests that one way to bring new ideas into church committees is to have different ethnic groups represented in your leadership. Take a few minutes and make a list of the people in your church of different ethnic groups. Consider which committees and offices they might contribute to and nominate them. If your church has already gone through the nomination process for the year, people can still be nominated at your annual Charge Conference.
