Worship Resources in Times of Crisis

Graphic of an open hand with a heart above itBased on the recommendations of public health officials, Bishop Karen Oliveto has requested that all in-person worship and gatherings be suspended. As our congregations move their worship services online, we are gathering resources here to support churches as they plan for or adapt to this change. If you have a resource to recommend, email them to: communications@mtnskyumc.org.

Special thanks to the Greater Northwest Area and the Desert Southwest Conference for sharing information to conferences in the Western Jurisdiction.

How to make worship virtually easy:

Worship in the midst of an outbreak

There is no one-size-fits-all solution for faith communities when it comes to connecting with people in meaningful ways. As you make decisions, consider what would work best for the people in your community and use this as an opportunity to stretch into a new practice, perhaps one that you will embrace even after some semblance of normalcy returns.

Livestream Basics for Churches

Rev. David Valera and Patrick Scriven of the Greater Northwest Episcopal Area offer advice in this video for churches as they contemplate this move, identifying some of the challenges along the way.

Webinar Series on Online Worship

To equip local churches in the Western Jurisdiction with online worship resources, the Desert Southwest Conference is hosting a webinar series. Each webinar will be a live Q&A session on topics related to digital ministry, such as streaming platforms, music and video licensing, alternatives to online worship and more. DSC Director of Communications Christina Dillabough is facilitating the conversations.

Graphic for Anywhere ChurchAnywhere Church (Mission Aligned Worship)

The Mission Aligned Worship process provides a means for small, rural, and isolated churches to have access to a high quality worship experience with a minimal investment of time and money. We do this through leveraging recorded sermon content made specifically for this process and pair that with music, prayers, and other necessary resources.

Join Digital Devotion over Zoom

Mountain Sky Digital Devotion is a brief online experience of worship every Monday through Friday, beginning on Ash Wednesday and continuing until Pentecost. Participants across the conference and beyond come together via Zoom conference call each day at 6:30 a.m. for 20 minutes of scripture reading, devotion, sharing, and prayer.

TechSoup Discounts for Nonprofits

The church will need its EIN number in order to set up a TechSoup account, which they can get from the church treasurer. In addition to Zoom, churches and nonprofits can also find deals on:

  • Microsoft Office
  • Adobe Products
  • Intuit QuickBooks
  • Windows 10 operating system
  • Hardware (computers, wireless routers, hotspot devices, etc.)
  • Many courses

Currently, TechSoup is offering  a course called “Pivoting to Remote Work – COVID-19 Response Course" for free.
