Worship at the 2017 Annual Conference Session will be planned and led by Rev. Eric Strader and the worship team. Rev. Strader has asked that we share the following:
1. If you are a musician and will be at the 2017 Annual Conference session, please let us know. We are creating a database of talented people and may have an opportunity for you this year or in future years to help fill out the worship band.
2. The Annual Conference worship team is looking for a LARGE baptismal bowl. Could we borrow it for worship? Send pictures to worship coordinator.
3. Clergy are invited to robe for ordination on Sunday June 18th. Any color robe and a red stole representing the Holy Spirit is appropriate. There is a robing room this year, you will be directed there Sunday morning. Please be robed and ready by 8:15 a.m.
Questions and information can be emailed to Rev. Eric Strader at estrader@ChristChurchColorado.
Karen P. Oliveto was consecrated as a bishop of The United Methodist Church on July 16, 2016 in Scottsdale, Ariz., and assigned for the 2016-2020 quadrennium to the Mountain Sky Episcopal Area, which includes the Rocky Mountain, and Yellowstone annual (regional) conferences. Bishop Oliveto was elected to the episcopacy after serving as the first woman pastor of the 12,000-member Glide Memorial United Methodist Church in San Francisco, CA, one of The United Methodist Church’s 100 largest congregations.
Born on Good Friday in 1958, in the aptly named community of Babylon, N.Y. Bishop Oliveto grew up in her local United Methodist Church, being active in Sunday School and the youth group, believing from an early age that God was calling her into ministry. She earned her B.A. in Psychology, cum laude, from Drew University (1980), her Master in Divinity from Pacific School of Religion (1983), her Master in Philosophy from Drew University (1991), and her PhD in the Sociology of Religion from Drew University (2002).
Bishop Oliveto was ordained as an Elder in the New York Conference of The United Methodist Church in 1985 and transferred her clergy membership to the California-Nevada Annual Conference in July 1997. During her ministry, Bishop Oliveto has served in rural, urban, and academic contexts.
Bishop Oliveto has the distinction of being the first openly lesbian bishop in The United Methodist Church. She and her wife, Robin Ridenour, a nurse anesthetist and United Methodist deaconess, were married in 2014.
Dr. Melanie Rosa has been the Superintendent of the Mile High Pikes Peak District for 7 years, and Dean of the Cabinet for 3 years. This summer she transitions back to local church ministry to serve First UMC, Fort Collins.
Rosa was ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church in 1986. She has served Grace United Methodist Church in Denver as an Associate Pastor from 1984-86; Eagle-Gypsum 86-89; Colorado Springs Trinity 89-95 and Lakewood UMC 95-2010. She has served in mission in Haiti, Guatemala, Romania and Mexico, and serves on the Boards of several non-profit agencies.
Said Bishop Karen Oliveto: “As Dean of the cabinet, Melanie has grounded our work in prayer and encouraged us to be strategic and creative in responding to the ministry needs of the Rocky Mountain Conference. In all things, she has led with a deep love of God, God's people, and the local church.”
